EASA will hold its annual High Level Conference on Drones on January 18-19, during the Amsterdam Drone Week. The EASA HLC on Drones will bring together experts, policymakers and stakeholders of any level to share ideas and discuss all kinds of drone-related issues, such as U-Space implementation, Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and EASA-designed policies on UAM social acceptance, and Urban Skies governance. The EASA HLC on Drones is a unique opportunity to have a full picture on European drone rules; in addition, it also provides a chance to discuss and directly engage with European policy makers on the UAM topic.

“UAM becoming a Reality”

On this edition, EASA HLC on Drones theme is “UAM becoming a reality”. Fittingly, the Conference aims at fostering dialogue between aviation specialists and researchers, UAM stakeholders (e.g., RPAS manufacturers) and European Commission delegates, representing the policymakers. The main objective is to create coordination and cooperation among various levels to allow UAM and its related industry to quickly and safely develop and thrive, consequently enhancing EU competitiveness and development in this critical sector.

The EASA HLC on Drones will last two days. It is hosted at the RAI Amsterdam together with the Amsterdam Drone Week (ADW), a yearly international stage for sharing knowledge and practices about the current Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) solutions, development, and crucial regulation.

Two days devoted to UAM

Patrick Ky, EASA Executive Director, will open Day 1 of the EASA HLC on Drones. Interventions from high level representatives of the European Commission, National Governments and UAM industry will follow. Overall, this first day will focus on plenary panel discussions on the new scenarios brought by UAM development. Topics will revolve around social acceptance, nurturing further stakeholder partnership, and identification of key aspects of UAM.

Then, Day 2 will host interactive technical workshops, with dedicated Q&A sessions, where the audience can engage with speakers and share their insights. The workshops will revolve around:

  • UAS design verification guidelines and their application;
  • Vertiports and dedicated UAM infrastructures;
  • U-Space implementation in UAM environment with manned UAM vehicles Air Traffic Management integration;
  • UAM operators’ licensing and operational requirements.

Tickets are available on the Amsterdam Drone Week website. The EASA HLC Delegate Pass also grants full access to the ADW Hybrid, that will be held on January 18-20, 2022.
